FMCG transport — packaged goods, delivered inside the warehouse slot

In FMCG the truck is not late to the client, it is late to a warehouse that works on slots. A missed slot often means coming back the next day, with everything that follows. So the shipment is built around the receiving window and, in winter, around the temperature — water and drinks freeze inside a curtainsider at -10 °C.

Trucks

Which truck I use for FMCG transport

Insulated van

The usual winter option: no refrigeration unit, but it keeps the cargo away from frost over short and medium distances.

Refrigerated trailer

When the goods have a temperature declared by the manufacturer, or when the journey is long and it is below zero outside.

Standard curtainsider trailer

In summer and for cargo with no temperature regime. 33 euro pallets, side loading.

Truck with a tail lift

For deliveries to small shops, where there is no dock.

Cargo

What cargo usually travels this way

  • Soft drinks, water and beer in palletised cases
  • Tinned goods, pasta and packaged dry goods
  • Snacks, confectionery and long-life bakery products
  • Coffee, tea and instant drinks
  • Cleaning and hygiene products in retail packaging
  • Packaged pet food
Fit

When to choose this option

  • 01 You deliver into a chain's warehouse, with a booked receiving slot.
  • 02 It is winter and the cargo — drinks, liquids — must not freeze on the way.
  • 03 You have a campaign and volumes climb sharply for a few weeks.
  • 04 The chain asks you for proof of delivery the same day.
Documents

Which documents you need

The papers below are the ones I ask for or check myself before loading. If you are missing one, tell me at the start and we will sort it out.

  1. 1

    CMR or goods accompanying note

The basic document. Domestically the accompanying note; internationally the CMR.

  2. 2

    Commercial invoice

Mandatory, matching the goods actually loaded.

  3. 3

    Packing list with batch numbers

The chains check batch and best-before date at goods-in. A correct list cuts hours off the unloading.

  4. 4

    ATP certificate

When the goods travel under a declared temperature regime, in international traffic.

FAQ

What people ask me about FMCG transport

In winter, how do you stop drinks from freezing?

Over short distances, an insulated van. On a long journey or below -10 °C, a refrigerated trailer set to positive — the unit does not chill, it keeps the cargo above zero. Tell me at order stage that the goods are frost-sensitive, because otherwise the default truck is a curtainsider.

Do you book the warehouse slot yourselves?

Yes, if you give me the order number and the warehouse contact details. Booking is usually done 24–48h ahead, and the slot goes into the transport order so the driver has it before departure.

Are euro pallets exchanged at unloading?

It depends on the warehouse's policy. Tell me from the start whether pallets are exchanged or stay with the consignee, because it affects the calculation and has to be written into the order.

Tell me the route. I will send you a firm price.

It takes under a minute to fill in, or you can just call me. I check availability with carriers and come back with a firm quote, with no hidden costs at unloading.
