Agricultural inputs transport — heavy cargo, delivered before the campaign

With agricultural inputs the deadline is not negotiated with me, it is negotiated with the weather. Fertiliser that reaches the farm after the fields have been entered is a cost, not a help. And there is one more thing: fertilisers are hygroscopic — they draw moisture from the air and set hard inside the big bag if the curtain let water in.

Usual unit
Big bag of 500–1,000 kg, on a pallet
Load per truck
22–24 t; the weight fills the truck before the volume does
Peak season
February — April and August — October
CMR liability
SDR 8.33/kg of the weight short
Trucks

Which truck I use for agricultural inputs transport

Standard curtainsider trailer

The usual option for big bags and palletised cargo. The curtain must be intact — a tear means fertiliser set hard.

Truck with a tail lift

For farms with no forklift or with an improvised ramp.

Dry van

For treated seed, packaged plant protection products and cargo that must not pick up damp.

Flatbed or oversized trailer

For agricultural machinery and equipment beyond standard dimensions.

Cargo

What cargo usually travels this way

  • Fertiliser in big bags and in palletised sacks
  • Certified seed, treated or untreated
  • Packaged plant protection products, some under ADR
  • Silage film, baling net and packaging
  • Spare parts and sub-assemblies for machinery
  • Feed and packaged animal nutrition
Fit

When to choose this option

  • 01 You have a campaign starting on a fixed date and the goods must be there beforehand.
  • 02 The cargo is hygroscopic and will not take rain through a torn curtain.
  • 03 You deliver to a farm, where unloading is done with a front loader or not at all.
  • 04 The weight fills the truck before the volume does, and the price per tonne is what counts.
Documents

Which documents you need

The papers below are the ones I ask for or check myself before loading. If you are missing one, tell me at the start and we will sort it out.

  1. 1

    CMR or goods accompanying note

The basic document. Domestically the accompanying note; internationally the CMR.

  2. 2

    UIT code from e-Transport

Fertilisers usually fall into the high fiscal risk categories. It is declared before departure and must be with the driver, not in an email.

  3. 3

    ADR transport document

For plant protection products classified as dangerous goods. Determined from the safety data sheet.

  4. 4

    Seed documentation

The quality certificate and the official label, where the law requires them.

FAQ

What people ask me about agricultural inputs transport

Do fertilisers need a UIT code?

Usually yes, above the weight and value thresholds in RO e-Transport. The shipper or the beneficiary declares it, before the truck leaves, and the driver must carry it. I will walk you through it if it is your first time.

Do plant protection products fall under ADR?

Some do, some do not — it depends on the active substance and the packaging. It is read from section 14 of the safety data sheet. Send me the sheet before ordering and I will tell you whether an ADR truck is needed.

Can you deliver straight to the farm?

Yes. Tell me at order stage what unloads at the farm — front loader, forklift or nothing — because that decides whether I send a tail lift truck or an ordinary one. A truck that arrives at a farm with nothing to unload it stands idle, and waiting time is charged.

Tell me the route. I will send you a firm price.

It takes under a minute to fill in, or you can just call me. I check availability with carriers and come back with a firm quote, with no hidden costs at unloading.
